At the turn of the 20th century, scores of wealthy Americans seeking a retreat from urban industrial life built grand country estates for themselves. These magnificent mansions were modeled after the popular Georgian architectural style, with its symmetrical design, classic proportions, and decorative elements. They were also surrounded by acres of landscaped grounds, modeled after English country houses. The North Shore of Long Island was a popular location for the country estates of wealthy New Yorkers, and was subsequently dubbed, the Gold Coast.

1925
The Great Gatsby is published. Written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald, it follows a cast of characters living in the fictional town of West Egg on the prosperous Long Island Gold Coast in the summer of 1922.

1954
The movie Sabrina, starring Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn, and William Holden is released in the US with portions filmed at The Mansion.

1967
The Mansion at Glen Cove becomes one of the very first conference center hotels in the United States.

2018
The Mansion at Glen Cove adds 60 sophisticated, modern, and gorgeous rooms to its accommodation offers. The rooms became available to guests in March of 2018.
1910
The Mansion at Glen Cove was designed by noted architect Charles Adams Platt in 1910 and was soon after named one of the Twelve Best Country Houses in America. The 55-acre estate was the home of John Teele & Ruth Baker Pratt. John Pratt was an attorney and an executive with John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company.
Originally known as The Manor, The Mansion features a stately two-story portico entrance, an elegant, baronial double staircase, imported paneling and antique fixtures that impart an enveloping feeling of a bygone era. The brick Georgian mansion is set in idyllic surroundings and is one of several glamorous estates that once comprised Long Island’s famed Gold Coast, also known for being the setting of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic book, The Great Gatsby.

1929
Ruth Baker Pratt is elected as a Republican to the 71st and 72nd Congresses, becoming the first woman elected to Congress from New York.

1959
North by Northwest, considered one of Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest films & starring Cary Grant, is released in the US with portions filmed in Glen Cove and at The Mansion.

1985
The Mansion at Glen Cove Hotel & Conference Center begins collecting national accolades for its conference and meeting spaces:
